We have a beautiful zoo in Tyler. The zoo had it's beginnings in the backyard of D.K. and Lottie Caldwell's home in l937. It consisted of a parrot, 2 squirrels and a monkey. Today it's a beautiful zoo and really worth the trip. I have so many memories of our family at the zoo and don't even get me started on the times I took my kindergarten classes there. Beth remembers when Lottie Caldwell came and spoke to her third grade class. She was quite a lady.

but no bears!. We did however see penguins.
Beth wanted to see the meerkats, but their little town was deserted and they were sequestered behind a big fence. Beth called it meerkat jail. Oh well.

The East Africa vista is beautiful. How can giraffes be so graceful and at the same time awkward looking?

Greg walked the zoo with no problems. What a change for him. He still has a slight limp and some muscle pain, but he's so much better.

The turtles were really frisky today. We saw a couple (turtles that is) fighting and then a little girl described this as "dancing". Oh well.
